Biography
Dimitris Avramopoulos chairs the Honorary Members' Committee of DDD Foundation. He served as European Commissioner for Migration, Home Affairs and Citizenship from 2014 to 2019, during which he led the European Union's response to the migration crisis and the consolidation of the European Border and Coast Guard.
Before his European Commission tenure he held senior positions in Greek government across four decades, including Minister of Foreign Affairs, Minister of National Defence, Minister of Tourism, and Minister of Health. He served as Mayor of Athens between 1995 and 2002.
As Chair of the Honorary Members' Committee, Avramopoulos anchors the foundation's institutional credibility across European institutions and across the Eastern Mediterranean.
